Lithuania has noted the impact of the reduction in the diesel excise tax
Lithuanian Energy Minister Žygimantas Vaičūnas stated that the reduction in the excise tax on diesel fuel is already yielding positive results.
He made this statement during an appearance on LRT.
On Tuesday, April 14, the Lithuanian parliament approved a temporary reduction in the excise tax on diesel fuel to curb rising fuel prices caused by the conflict in the Middle East.
Vaichūnas stated that this decision has already yielded results.
"The crisis is certainly not over yet. The effect [of the excise tax reduction] was evident. There is a so-called psychological price for diesel fuel—two euros per liter—and we managed to lower it. The measures were undoubtedly appropriate, as they had a certain effect, but long-term stability is needed," he said.
The Lithuanian minister emphasized that the reduction in excise tax affects prices gradually.
