Four Jewish ambulance vehicles were set on fire in London — BBC
In north London, unknown individuals deliberately set fire to four emergency medical vehicles belonging to Hatzola, a volunteer organization of the Jewish community.
The BBC reports this.
The Metropolitan Police officially classified this act of vandalism as a “crime motivated by anti-Semitic hatred” and launched an urgent investigation to apprehend those involved.
Firefighters were called to Highfield Road in the Golders Green area around 1:40 a.m. local time after the emergency vehicles were found on fire.
The situation was critical because the vehicles contained medical oxygen cylinders, which began to explode due to the high temperatures.
A series of explosions shattered windows in a nearby apartment building, forcing rescue workers to urgently evacuate residents from nearby homes.
Six fire trucks and about 40 firefighters were deployed to extinguish the fire, and they managed to bring the blaze under control in just an hour and a half.
“We are reviewing surveillance camera footage and are aware of online recordings. At this early stage, we are searching for three suspects,” said District Police Chief Sergeant Sarah Jackson.
Despite significant property damage, law enforcement confirmed that no one was injured as a result of the incident.
Hatzola is a vital part of the city’s infrastructure, having provided free emergency medical care to all residents of the Golders Green neighborhood since 1979.
The destruction of their fleet jeopardizes their ability to respond promptly to calls in the area with the largest Jewish community in the British capital.
As a reminder, a man from Syria carried out a deadly attack near a synagogue in Britain.
There was also an explosion at a Jewish school in Amsterdam.
