NATO stated that the reduction of U.S. troops in Europe will not weaken the Alliance

A possible reduction in the U.S. military presence in Europe will not undermine NATO’s defense capabilities if European allies quickly make up for critical military capabilities.

In an interview with Euractiv, NATO Military Committee Chairman Giuseppe Cavo Dragone stated that the review of U.S. troop presence on the European continent will take place gradually and in full coordination between the U.S. and NATO.

“The plan is in place. The Alliance has the capacity to manage this transition period,” Cavo Dragone emphasized.

At the same time, he noted that European countries need to strengthen the so-called strategic capabilities that have traditionally been provided by the United States. These include, in particular, aerial refueling, electronic warfare, intelligence, surveillance systems, high-precision long-range strikes, as well as integrated air and missile defense.

Kavo Dragone also urged allies not to simply copy U.S. military capabilities, but to invest in modern technologies that have proven their effectiveness during the war in Ukraine. Among these, he cited drones, autonomous systems, and inexpensive high-precision weapons.

According to the chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Alliance countries should rely not only on the most advanced weapons but also on systems that can be produced quickly and on a large scale.

As a reminder, NATO is expanding its mission in the Baltic states to include air defense.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he does not view the NATO summit in Turkey as the culmination of his political career. According to him, the Alliance has changed significantly, and the current meeting of allies has demonstrated positive results and the effectiveness of cooperation.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he is ready to visit Ukraine “at the appropriate time,” but believes it would be best to do so after the end of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
