An international investigative team will investigate the attempted assassination of Yermolayev and the murder of his hitman
Ukraine and Monaco have agreed to strengthen cooperation in investigating criminal cases related to the attempted murder of a Ukrainian family in Monaco and the murder of Ukrainian citizen Anastasia Berezovskaya. Law enforcement agencies from both countries plan to establish a joint investigative team to facilitate the exchange of information and coordinate the efforts of investigators.
During the meeting, the parties discussed two criminal cases that require international cooperation. The first case concerns the attempted murder of a Ukrainian family in Monaco, and the second concerns the murder of Ukrainian citizen Anastasia Berezovskaya. Representatives of Ukrainian law enforcement agencies, including leadership from the Security Service of Ukraine, the National Police, and the Prosecutor General’s Office, participated in the talks. Representatives of Monaco’s judicial and law enforcement agencies also joined the discussions.
The Ukrainian side provided its counterparts with information on the progress of the investigation into Berezovska’s murder and reported the arrest of individuals whom investigators believe to be involved in the crime. According to Ruslan Kravchenko, it is important for law enforcement agencies of both countries to work together, as some of the circumstances of the case involve different countries. “I briefed my colleagues on the progress of the Ukrainian investigation, the established circumstances of Anastasia Berezovskaya’s murder, and also shared details regarding the arrest of individuals whom the investigation considers to be the perpetrators of this crime,” noted the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
Why Is an International Investigation Team Needed?
The creation of a joint investigative team should help the two countries exchange materials more quickly and coordinate investigative actions. In such cases, where crimes are international in nature, law enforcement agencies often need to work together, as evidence, witnesses, or participants in the events may be located in different countries.
Ruslan Kravchenko emphasized that Ukraine is interested in launching this form of cooperation as soon as possible. According to him, a joint team will allow Ukrainian and Monegasque law enforcement agencies to combine their efforts more effectively. “I emphasized the need to establish an international investigative team as soon as possible, which will ensure the prompt exchange of information, coordination of investigative actions, and effective cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine and the Principality of Monaco,” Kravchenko said.
The parties have already agreed to establish an operational exchange of information and materials related to criminal proceedings. This should allow investigators to verify the data received more quickly, establish all the circumstances of the crimes, and bring the perpetrators to justice.
What is known about the cases
These are two separate criminal cases that have come under the scrutiny of law enforcement agencies in Ukraine and Monaco. One of them is related to an attempted attack on a Ukrainian family that took place in Monaco. The other concerns the murder of Ukrainian citizen Anastasia Berezovskaya.
Ukrainian law enforcement officials have already reported the arrest of individuals suspected of committing the crime against Berezovska. Further investigation requires cooperation between the two countries, as information from both sides must be analyzed to establish the full picture of events.
The prosecutor’s office notes that international cooperation in such cases is an important part of modern investigations. Joint efforts by law enforcement agencies should help not only identify all those involved but also ensure that the guilty parties are properly punished. This became known following a conversation between Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko and the Prosecutor General of the Principality of Monaco, Stéphane Thibault.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that in the coming days he will hear additional reports from law enforcement agencies regarding the investigation into the attempted assassination of businessman Vadym Yermolayev in Monaco, after which he will brief the public on the progress of the case.
