No hantavirus was detected in passengers from the evacuated cruise ship in the Netherlands

Laboratory tests in the Netherlands have not confirmed any cases of hantavirus infection among the passengers and crew members of the cruise ship MV Hondius, who were evacuated following an outbreak of the disease on board.

This was reported by NOS.

According to the Netherlands Institute for Public Health, this concerns 26 people who were transported from Tenerife earlier this week. Despite the negative test results, they were advised to remain in quarantine for six weeks.

Test results for the first evacuees who arrived earlier were also negative.

At the same time, experts suggest that two Dutch citizens who died after becoming infected may have been infected in Argentina before boarding the ship, though this has not yet been definitively confirmed.

We also reported: Among the crew members of the MV Hondius, where an outbreak of hantavirus was recorded, are five Ukrainian citizens. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that no signs of a deterioration in their health have been detected so far.

The disease on board the MV Hondius, owned by the Dutch company Oceanwide Expeditions, which has claimed the lives of three passengers, may have been brought aboard by Argentine rats or mice.
