In the Netherlands, police closed a tunnel to rescue a herd of horses that had wandered onto the road

In the Netherlands, about a dozen horses ended up right on the roadway of the A9 interstate highway near Beverwijk. The animals also managed to pass through a road tunnel under the canal, much to the surprise of drivers.

The incident occurred on the evening of September 2.

A herd of horses suddenly appeared on the road, which was busy with traffic.

Among the drivers was a journalist from a regional broadcaster. According to him, the animals’ appearance was so unexpected that he was “scared to death.”

Drivers approaching that section of the highway had to slam on their brakes to avoid colliding with the horses.

Police officers and employees of the company that maintains the tunnel arrived at the scene.

To safely remove the animals from the road, law enforcement officers and company employees had to temporarily close the tunnel.

Eventually, the horses were driven off the roadway.

The animals were unharmed, and normal traffic on the A9 highway was soon restored.

The reasons why the herd ended up on the busy interstate highway have not been reported.

This was reported by NOS.

On the morning of September 2, on the Vilnius–Panyavežis highway in Lithuania, drivers were startled by a herd of horses running unescorted along the roadside. The animals were near the town of Klevinai and were heading toward Ukmerge.
