Two bail applications for Ghanaian MP rejected in the Netherlands — MyJoyOnline

Two applications for the release on bail of Ghanaian parliament member Ohené Kwame Frimpong, who represents the Asante-Akyem-North constituency, have been rejected in the Netherlands. According to MyJoyOnline, he remains in custody in Amsterdam until the extradition hearing scheduled for November 18, 2026.

Bail applications

The rejection of the applications was reported by the Majority Chief Whip and South Dayi MP Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor. According to him, a substantive application and an appeal concerning bail were filed, but both applications were rejected.

Frimpong was arrested in May 2026 at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport after travelling from Ghana. Ghana’s Parliament later confirmed his detention and reported engagement with the country’s diplomatic mission in The Hague to obtain additional information.

Extradition hearing

According to the outlet, the MP’s detention is linked to allegations of romance fraud and money laundering. Dafeamekpor said that Parliament is preparing for the substantive hearing on November 18 and is also preparing a statement on the MP’s status.

Earlier, he urged the media not to disseminate unverified information about the case. According to him, the legal team was still obtaining official documents concerning Frimpong’s arrest and detention at that time.
