A futuristic complex called Rotterdam Rocks will be built in the Netherlands

The winning design for the headquarters of the social enterprise Shift was unveiled in Rotterdam; it is set to become a new architectural landmark for the city and a call to action in the fight against climate change. The international competition to design the complex was won by the renowned Dutch architectural firm MVRDV.

The new structure will be built in the new Waterkant district on the south bank of the Maas River. The building will consist of seven giant stone blocks stacked on top of one another. The exterior facade will feature special niches and recesses for collecting rainwater, where plants will be planted to create an environment for urban biodiversity.

The centerpiece of the complex will be the 5,000-square-meter interactive exhibition space Elysium, where multimedia installations will present visitors with scenarios for the future and sustainable development. In addition, the building will house a 200-room hotel, educational and business centers, a restaurant, a food court, spaces for local communities, and an observation deck with an outdoor pedestrian walkway.
