In Nigeria, Osun State governor bans NURTW activities after ally's murder
Governor of Nigeria's Osun State Ademola Adeleke has banned the activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers of Nigeria (NURTW) following the killing of his political ally Olalekan Oyeyemi in the city of Ile-Ife. He ordered rival groups to leave the state's motor parks and garages and instructed the police commissioner to ensure the arrest of all those involved in the murder.
As reported by Premium Times Nigeria, Oyeyemi, known as Emir Ajagungbade, was shot dead on Sunday at the Mayfair motor park in Ile-Ife. He was a member of the Accord Party, an ally of the governor, worked in the transport sector, and was part of a government-appointed transport committee.
Investigation into the shooting
Osun State Police confirmed the launch of an investigation into the circumstances of the shooting. Law enforcement officers were deployed to the scene to restore order and ensure security.
Police said they are establishing the immediate and underlying causes of the attack, as well as those responsible for it. The motive for the shooting and those involved have not yet been publicly identified by police.

Some associates of the deceased accused representatives of a rival group of the murder. However, these claims have not been independently confirmed, and police have not publicly linked the attack to any specific person or group.
Management of motor parks
Adeleke said the state government would restore the system for managing motor parks and garages. According to him, he will soon issue an executive order intended to introduce a new management procedure for these facilities.
The dispute over the leadership of the NURTW branch in Osun has been ongoing for several months. In July, the state authorities suspended the union's activities at motor parks following clashes between factions. The national leadership of the NURTW disputed the governor's right to halt the organization's work and set up a seven-member interim committee for the state, but the Osun government rejected the decision.
