Re-election of Osun State governor challenged in Nigeria
In Nigeria’s Osun State, separate petitions over the results of the August 15 gubernatorial election, in which Ademola Adeleke won a second term, were filed with the Election Petition Tribunal. The results are being challenged by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Petitions before the tribunal
As Premium Times Nigeria reports, citing The Nation, the petitions were posted on the notice board of the Osun State Election Petition Tribunal in Osogbo. This formally referred the election disputes to the tribunal for consideration.
The APC petition, numbered EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Bola Oyebamiji. The respondents in the case are listed as Ademola Adeleke, the Accord party, and Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The second petition, EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Adedamola. It lists Adeleke, INEC and the Accord party as respondents.

Voting results
Ademola Adeleke ran on the Accord party ticket. According to INEC, he received 511,067 votes, while his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the APC, received 444,815 votes.
The specific grounds on which the petitioners are challenging the voting results were not available at the time of publication. Earlier, Oyebamiji congratulated Adeleke on his re-election while stating that the APC would seek justice through legal and constitutional means.
The tribunal is expected to take further procedural steps, including serving the petitions on the respondents and holding preliminary hearings.
