Nigerian presidential residence employee Peter Onwubuariri dies
Peter Chukwuemeka Onwubuariri, deputy director of information and public relations at the presidential residence in Abuja, died at a hospital in the Nigerian city of Kano on September 7. He was 48. This was reported by Premium Times Nigeria.
Onwubuariri worked as a media officer under presidents Goodluck Jonathan, Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Ahmed Tinubu. During 12 years at the presidential residence, he prepared press releases, speeches and analytical materials, and coordinated presidential meetings and media events in Nigeria and abroad.
Work at the presidential residence
Before being transferred to the presidential residence in 2014, Onwubuariri worked as a North American correspondent for the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN. He began his service at NAN as a member of the youth corps in 2002, after which he remained at the agency.

During his work at the presidential residence, he collaborated with six presidential spokespersons: Reuben Abati, Femi Adesina, Garba Shehu, Dele Alake, Ajuri Ngelale and Bayo Onanuga. The report also states that Onwubuariri continued to work remotely while receiving treatment in India, Egypt and Nigeria.
Condolences from officials
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu called the death of the journalist and civil servant a painful loss for the presidential residence, NAN and Nigeria's media community. According to the president, Onwubuariri's years of work across three administrations demonstrated his professionalism, competence and dedication to public service.
Kano State Governor Yusuf also expressed condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased. He said that Onwubuariri had received medical care at a Kano hospital with the support of the state authorities. He is survived by his wife, three children, three sisters and his mother.
