Student detained in Nigeria after shooting from moving car in Calabar — Premium Times Nigeria
Police in Nigeria’s Cross River State have detained a 24-year-old student after a video emerged allegedly showing a man firing from a moving car in Calabar. The incident occurred on the morning of September 17, Premium Times Nigeria reports.
Manhunt based on video footage
State police spokesperson Sunday Eytokpa said that Police Commissioner Ajo Ordu ordered the prompt identification and detention of everyone involved in the incident. At about 11:30 p.m. on September 17, the deputy commissioner of police in charge of operations and officers of the violent crime response unit began an operation based on intelligence.
According to Eytokpa, law enforcement officers identified and tracked the car recorded in the video, after which they detained its driver. Information obtained during the operation helped police locate the main suspect, who was detained at a hotel in Calabar.

Police statements and investigation
Police described the detainee as a student at the University of Cross River. According to the spokesperson, during questioning he identified himself as the leader of Vikings Confraternity. Eytokpa also said that the student admitted that he was the person depicted in the video during the shooting.
Police say the detainee explained that he had attended an event marking the completion of studies that day, while the pistol that, according to police, may have been used in the shooting was handed to him by another alleged member of the group. Law enforcement officers continue to identify and search for other people who may be involved in the case.
Investigators are also examining the circumstances of firearm possession and the car’s movements. The police commissioner ordered a comprehensive and professional investigation and for all those who took part in or aided the alleged offense to be held accountable.
