Germany wants to protect the Bundestag from drones around the clock

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has called for the establishment of a permanent system to protect the Bundestag and other constitutional bodies from drones.

According to him, the risk of potential drone attacks on government institutions has increased, and recent incidents involving drones near critical facilities have heightened security concerns.

In a letter to Bundestag President Julia Klöckner, the minister emphasized that protecting constitutional bodies is of particular importance in light of an “abstract but real threat.”

Currently, a special federal police unit dedicated to countering drones can only be deployed on a temporary basis. Dobrindt proposes establishing a permanent mechanism to protect the parliament from drone threats.
