Germany has begun manufacturing long-range drones for Ukraine

Germany has begun production of more than 5,000 long-range strike drones for Ukraine. The first drones have already been manufactured, and the tested systems are scheduled to be delivered to the Ukrainian Armed Forces by the end of this year. These AI-powered drones are capable of striking targets even under electronic warfare conditions.

The drones are being developed by a joint venture between the German-American company Auterion and the Ukrainian developer Airlogix near Munich, which was founded in February of this year. The project is being carried out at the request of the German government, and sources in the defense industry estimate the contract’s value at approximately 300 million euros.

The partners plan to fully complete this large-scale order by mid-2027. At the same time, the companies are counting on new orders and long-term cooperation in the future.

To ensure high production rates, drone assembly operations are being rolled out not only at the site near Munich but also at an additional plant in eastern Germany.

Technical Specifications and Role Distribution

The facilities are assembling two drone models: a medium-range version and a long-range version capable of traveling up to 1,500 kilometers. All drones are single-use and carry explosives for directly striking enemy targets.

In this partnership, the companies have clearly divided their technological responsibilities. The Ukrainian company Airlogix supplies the airframes and mechanical components, while Auterion is responsible for the software and operating system.

Artificial intelligence is integrated into the drones’ software. It enables them to successfully reach designated targets even under active jamming by enemy electronic warfare systems.

According to Auterion CEO Lorenz Meyer, thanks to this project, Germany has secured its own production line for manufacturing precision and relatively affordable weapons in large quantities.
