A suspect in the attacks on power substations has been arrested in Germany — Spiegel
On September 8, a man suspected of sabotage at electrical substations was arrested in western Germany. The arrest took place in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, where attacks had been carried out on several power facilities.
The 48-year-old man, Daniel F., was traveling on foot; at the time of his arrest, he was attempting to bypass a checkpoint.
According to police, the man was carrying additional explosives at the time of his arrest and did not resist. In addition, officers found a tent set up in the nearby undergrowth, which was equipped with additional explosives. These items are currently being examined by a bomb disposal expert from the North Rhine-Westphalia State Criminal Police Office.
Several homemade explosive devices that the man used to attack the substations were found last night at a power plant in Weissweiler (near where the arrest took place).
Police also found a letter near one of the devices in which F. claimed responsibility. Police had been conducting an intensive search for the man for several days. A Europe-wide manhunt was launched on suspicion of sabotage at several substations in Brandenburg, Saxony, and North Rhine-Westphalia involving modified pyrotechnics.
