Boys’ dormitory collapses in New Delhi, killing at least one person
A five-story building housing a boys’ dormitory collapsed in New Delhi, India. At least one person was killed and several others were trapped under the rubble, officials said.
Building in a densely populated area
The collapse occurred in Satya Niketan, a densely populated area known for private student accommodations near the Delhi University campus. Authorities did not immediately specify how many people remained trapped under the rubble.
The Press Trust of India reported that dozens of people lived in the building. Legislator Anil Sharma said that some people had already been rescued, while several people trapped inside had called for help. According to him, rescuers remained in contact with them.

Search operation continues
Police, firefighters and personnel from India’s emergency response agency searched for people amid the debris. Excavation equipment was deployed to clear the rubble.
At least two people were hospitalized in critical condition. The cause of the collapse has not yet been established.
As Global News Canada reports, building collapses regularly occur in some parts of India during the monsoon season from June to September, when heavy or prolonged rains can weaken old structures.
