Hundreds of Anti-Maduro Protesters Gather Outside New York Courthouse
Hundreds of anti-Maduro protesters and onlookers gathered outside Manhattan’s federal courthouse as they awaited the arrival of deposed President Nicolás Maduro ahead of his arraignment. The scene was heavily policed, with media crews surrounding the area, while helicopters and drones hovered overhead.
Many demonstrators wore Venezuelan flags and sang the national anthem, with some climbing onto a nearby playground structure to hold flags above the crowd. Protest signs — some in Spanish — condemned Maduro and thanked US President Donald Trump.
At the same time, a large contingent of counter-protesters arrived to denounce US military actions in Venezuela. Some waved Gaza flags and carried signs reading “No US War on Venezuela” and “Stop bombing Venezuela now.”
The courthouse steps thus became a symbolic stage for two sharply contrasting movements — Venezuelan expatriates celebrating Maduro’s capture and activists opposing US intervention.
