Foreign remittances to Pakistan rose 16.5% in August
In Pakistan, the volume of remittances from citizens working abroad reached $3.656 billion in August 2026. This is 16.5% higher than in August last year and 0.7% higher than in July, Dawn reports, citing the State Bank of Pakistan.
Figures for two months
In July, remittances amounted to $3.630 billion, while in August 2025 they stood at $3.138 billion. During the first two months of the 2026–2027 fiscal year, inflows increased by 14.7% year-on-year to $7.3 billion. During the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, the country received $6.4 billion.
Finance Ministry adviser Khurram Shehzad said that the steady inflow of remittances supports household incomes, foreign currency liquidity, international reserves and the resilience of the external sector. According to him, Pakistan received a record $41.6 billion in such inflows in the previous fiscal year.

Largest sources of inflows
The Pakistani government has set a remittance target of $44 billion for the current fiscal year. Saudi Arabia provided the largest volume of inflows in August, at $873.5 million, compared with $736.7 million a year earlier.
Remittances from the United Arab Emirates amounted to $749.8 million in August, compared with $642.9 million in August 2025. Transfers from the United Kingdom totalled $563.7 million, from European Union countries $495.9 million, from the United States $308.9 million, and from the states of the Gulf Cooperation Council $326.7 million.
A Pakistani investor in Dubai said that due to uncertainty linked to the war in the Persian Gulf, which, according to him, has lasted for more than 190 days, many Pakistani investors are trying to liquidate assets and withdraw them from the region.
