Pakistan auctions 117 trophy hunting permits
In Gilgit, Pakistan, the Gilgit-Baltistan Wildlife and Parks Department auctioned 117 trophy hunting permits for the 2026–2027 season. The most expensive permit to hunt an Astore markhor was purchased for $356,000, Dawn reports.
Markhor permits
The second permit to hunt an Astore markhor was sold for $301,000, and the third for $294,000. Another Astore markhor permit was carried over from the previous hunting season.
The auction took place at the Forestry, Parks and Wildlife Complex in Gilgit. Numerous hunting organizers and hunters attended the bidding ceremony.

Prices and expected revenue
Permits to hunt three Astore markhors, 14 blue sheep and 100 Himalayan ibexes were put up for auction. The hunting season will run from October 15 to April 10, 2027. The department expects to receive 650 million Pakistani rupees during the season.
Chief Conservator of Parks and Wildlife Zakir Hussain said that the highest permit for a blue sheep, intended for export, was sold for $31,200, while the lowest bid was $25,100. The most expensive permit for a Himalayan ibex in the prime category was sold for $13,200, while the lowest bid was $11,500.
