Pakistan restores roads after floods in the Kaghan and Manoor valleys
In Pakistan’s Mansehra district, the authorities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province have begun restoring roads and routes washed away during recent floods in the Kaghan and Manoor valleys. The work covers routes connecting settlements in these mountainous areas with the Mansehra—Naran—Jalkhad Road, Dawn reports.
Connections for villages and hospitals
Provincial Assembly member from Balakot tehsil Munir Hussain Lughmani said that special funding had been approved to clear and restore damaged routes. According to him, due to floods caused by monsoon rains, residents of dozens of villages and mountainous areas in the two valleys faced difficulties travelling and were unable to transport patients to medical facilities.
In the Barawai area, the route to Ratti Galli Lake was destroyed. Lughmani said that an alternative route in the Ratti Galli area had already been rebuilt for local residents and tourists. He also noted that, following appeals from Barawai residents, work had begun on creating an alternative route.

Transporting crops
The upper part of the Kaghan Valley is known for growing peas and tomatoes. According to the assembly member, restoring road connections and building alternative routes should make it easier for farmers to transport their produce to markets in the Hazara region and other parts of the country.
In the Manoor Valley, according to Lughmani, construction of a central road costing more than 600 million Pakistani rupees is ongoing. At the same time, routes along streams damaged by floods are being restored or replaced with alternative routes.
