The German chancellor's party is discussing a possible replacement – Bild

Discussions have emerged within Germany’s ruling party regarding the future of the chancellor. According to Bild, political circles have begun discussing the possibility of a change in government leadership amid internal disputes within the party.

 

The leadership of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU)—a party in Germany’s ruling coalition—has begun discussing a possible replacement for Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

According to Bild, a scenario involving a change in the head of government during his term is circulating among party insiders.

As the publication has learned, discussions are underway regarding:

  • under what circumstances replacing Merz could become a realistic option;
  • who exactly should lead the conversation with him in the event of such a decision.

The publication does not name specific potential successors, but emphasizes that the discussions have already moved beyond informal backroom debates.

As a reminder, Germany is strengthening Ukraine’s long-rangecapabilities through joint drone production.

At Ramstein, a number of countries announced new contributions to the PURL program—Fedorov.

Also, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hagset will again not participate in the meeting of the Ramstein Contact Group on Ukraine’s Defense, instead sending his deputy. 

Additionally, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte will join the meeting of the Ramstein Contact Group on Ukraine’s Defense.
