Poland scrambled its air force in response to a missile attack on Ukraine

On Wednesday evening, Poland scrambled its fighter jets and placed its ground-based reconnaissance and air defense systems on high alert in response to Russia’s missile strikes on Ukraine.

The Polish Armed Forces Operational Command reported this on social media platform X.

"Due to the activity of the Russian Federation’s long-range aviation, which is striking Ukrainian territory, military aircraft have begun operations in Polish airspace. In accordance with current procedures, the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command has mobilized the necessary forces and assets currently available. A pair of fighter jets and a radar detection aircraft have been scrambled, and ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems have been placed on high alert," the statement reads.

It is noted that the measures taken are preventive in nature and aimed at securing and protecting the airspace, especially in areas adjacent to the zone under threat.

The Polish Armed Forces Operational Command emphasized that it is monitoring the situation, and subordinate forces and assets remain on full alert for immediate response.

On the evening of April 15, Russian troops attacked Ukraine with strike drones, some of which were headed for Odesa. One of the UAVs struck a residential high-rise building, damaging apartments on the 5th through 7th floors. There are reports of damage and casualties.

Another explosion was heard in Zaporizhzhia. This is the second attack on the city on April 15.
