A woman suspected of abusing Ukrainian teenagers is set to stand trial in Poland
Police in Legnica, Poland, have detained a 26-year-old woman suspected of assaulting two 13-year-old Ukrainian teenagers near a swimming pool. She has been charged and is set to appear in court. The suspect faces up to seven years and six months in prison, according to “European Truth,” citing RMF 24.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening. The mother of the two girls from Ukraine wrote on Facebook that her children were playing by the pool with others. According to her, a woman approached them with her own children and reprimanded them for speaking Ukrainian in Poland.
The mother claims that the woman picked on the children several more times. In one such instance, she allegedly punched one of the complainant’s daughters, another girl, and a boy who came to their defense. According to the mother, the woman justified her actions by saying that the children were Ukrainian.
Yagoda Ekert, head of the Legnica District Police Department, reported that law enforcement officers were investigating the exact sequence of events, seizing recordings, identifying witnesses, and gathering evidence. The police identified the 26-year-old suspect, detained her, and took her to the district prosecutor’s office in Legnica.
The charges relate to causing bodily injury or harm to health lasting no more than seven days, as well as coercing another person to perform a specific action through the use of violence or unlawful threats. The suspect was placed under police supervision and ordered to stay away from the victims and the playground on Polarna Street in Legnica.
