In Poland, a military helicopter severed a power line during a training flight
In the village of Zaciś in the Podlaskie Voivodeship of Poland, a 15-kilovolt medium-voltage power line snapped. Preliminary reports suggest that a Mi-2 military helicopter, which was conducting a training flight in the area, may have been involved in the incident.
The incident occurred on Thursday around 5:15 p.m. in the village of Zatsish, located in the Zabludów municipality in the Podlaskie Voivodeship.
According to the Polish Military Gendarmerie, a 15 kV medium-voltage power line snapped there.
It cannot be ruled out that the damage was caused by a Mi-2 military helicopter that was in the area.
The Military Gendarmerie noted that the helicopter “was conducting a training flight in the area.” After the incident, the helicopter safely returned to base, where it will undergo a detailed inspection.
Witnesses to the incident reported the broken power line to the relevant authorities.
According to them, the helicopter was flying at a low altitude and may have struck the power line, causing it to break.
At the same time, the Polish military has not yet confirmed that the helicopter was the cause of the damage.
“Measures are underway to determine whether a military aircraft was involved in the incident,” the Military Gendarmerie said in a statement.
They added that the results of the investigation will be reported as they become available.
Incidents involving military helicopters coming into contact with power lines have occurred before during training exercises.
In particular, in 2021 in Slovenia, a Eurocopter Tiger attack helicopter collided with a power line near the town of Brestanița during NATO exercises.
