Poland has thwarted the smuggling of over a ton of heroin worth €51 million

Polish law enforcement officials carried out a large-scale operation at the port of Gdynia and prevented more than a ton of heroin from being smuggled into the country. The operation was conducted jointly by the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Polish Customs Service.

According to the investigation, the drugs arrived in Poland from the United Arab Emirates in shipping containers. The heroin was carefully concealed among a shipment of decorative bricks.

During the inspection of the containers, customs officers used X-ray scanning and deployed a service dog. As a result, 1,030 kilograms of heroin were discovered.

Law enforcement estimates that the street value of the seized drugs is nearly 220 million zlotys, or about 51 million euros.

As part of the investigation, three Polish citizens—two men and a woman—were detained in mid-May. They were charged with attempting to illegally transport a particularly large shipment of drugs through Polish territory.

The court ordered pretrial detention for two of the suspects.

According to Polish customs officials, this is one of the largest heroin smuggling attempts ever thwarted in Poland, thanks to international cooperation and joint efforts by law enforcement agencies.
