A woman suspected of attacking Ukrainian children has been detained in Poland
Polish law enforcement officials have arrested and charged a 46-year-old woman suspected of assaulting two Ukrainian children in Bydgoszcz.
According to local police, the woman is charged with a hate crime based on nationality, violating the physical integrity of a minor, and property damage.
The suspect is to be taken to the district prosecutor’s office, where further legal proceedings will take place.
Meanwhile, a 34-year-old man, who was also detained in connection with this case, has already been questioned. He currently has witness status.
The attack on the Ukrainians took place on August 14 in a park near the train station in Bydgoszcz. Two adults, a man and a woman, started a conflict with a 14-year-old Ukrainian girl and her 12-year-old brother. According to available information, the reason for the aggression was the Ukrainian language the children were speaking to each other.
The attackers, who were walking their dog, insulted the children with profanities, threatened them because of their nationality, and used physical force.
Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk responded to the attack by two people on Ukrainian children in Bydgoszcz.
Prior to this, on the evening of August 1, an attack took place in the city of Kozhukhiv (Lubusz Voivodeship) against three Ukrainian citizens—37-year-old Volodymyr, 32-year-old Vasyl, and 28-year-old Adelina. The incident took place on the private grounds of the hostel where the victims were staying.
The Consulate General of Ukraine in Wrocław is monitoring reports of the attack on three Ukrainian citizens in the town of Kozhukhiv, Lubusz Voivodeship, Poland. Polish law enforcement authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident and its possible motives.
