Three suspects accused of spying for Russia have been detained in Poland

On May 20, Poland’s Internal Security Agency detained three Polish citizens on suspicion of collaborating with Russian intelligence services. According to Polish law enforcement officials, the suspects are believed to have engaged in activities benefiting Russia, specifically related to the collection and transmission of information. The details of the case and potential charges are currently being clarified.

Tomasz Siemoniak, Poland’s Minister-Coordinator for Special Services, wrote about this on Wednesday morning on X.

“Officers of the Internal Security Agency, acting on the instructions of the Podlasie Branch of the National Prosecutor’s Office, detained three individuals suspected of espionage activities on behalf of Russia. The detainees are Polish citizens—men aged 48 to 62. They are charged with intelligence activities, specifically the reconnaissance of NATO military infrastructure on Polish territory, as well as the production and dissemination of propaganda and disinformation materials,” Siemoniak reported.

He added that the district court in Białystok imposed a pretrial detention measure on these individuals in the form of a three-month detention.

Prior to this, Spain extradited a Ukrainian national to Germany in a case involving espionage on behalf of Russia.

A number of German banks have frozen the accounts of Russian citizens, demanding proof of their right to permanent residence in Germany.
