An alert was issued in Prague due to an armed man
In Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, law enforcement officials are conducting a large-scale police operation following reports of an armed man who was spotted in the eastern district of Chelakovice.
According to police, the man in question is 55-year-old Petr Šimon, who, based on preliminary information, has mental health issues. He was reportedly seen with a weapon near an educational institution, which he may have been heading toward.
Law enforcement officials have released the suspect’s details and reported that he may be traveling in a blue Skoda Fabia, providing the vehicle’s license plate number.
“If you have seen this car, please call 158 immediately, but do not intervene yourself,” the police urged.
After receiving information about a possible threat, the police dispatched all available law enforcement resources in the district to the area.
Meanwhile, classes are currently not in session at the educational institution near which the man may have been seen, so there are no students on the premises.
In addition to search operations in Chelakovice, the police have preemptively stepped up security measures near the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Education of the Czech Republic.
This decision was made following an analysis of preliminary information regarding the armed man’s possible routes of travel.
The search operation is currently ongoing, and law enforcement officials are urging citizens to remain vigilant and immediately report any information that could help locate the suspect.
