Oil billionaire Mikhail Smirnov died in a car accident in Russia

Russian businessman Mikhail Smirnov, who chaired the board of directors of the Baltic Fuel Company, was killed in a traffic accident in the Leningrad Region of the Russian Federation.

This was reported by Russian media.

The accident occurred at the 49th kilometer of the Pisk-Sosnovo-Podgorye highway. According to preliminary data, Smirnov, while riding a Triumph motorcycle, lost control on a turn, veered into oncoming traffic, and collided with a Haval vehicle.

He died at the scene from his injuries before medical personnel arrived.

According to Russian media reports, the businessman did not have a driver’s license of the appropriate category to operate a motorcycle. Additionally, over the past two years, he had been cited 19 times for traffic violations, primarily for speeding.

Smirnov was 53 years old.

Mikhail Smirnov was a co-owner and chairman of the board of directors of the Baltic Fuel Company, and also held a stake in Neva Oil, a company engaged in the export of petroleum products and ship bunkering in the port of St. Petersburg. According to Russian rankings, his fortune was estimated at around 7.8 billion rubles.
