A scam involving a hemp-based "invisible fabric" project has been exposed in Russia

In Russia, a government project to create so-called “invisibility fabric” for camouflaging objects on the ground turned out to be a scam. The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade successfully sued a contractor for nearly 86.5 million rubles; the contractor was supposed to develop a material made from flax and industrial hemp but failed to complete the task.

This is reported by Russian propaganda media.

The case involves a company that received a state subsidy of 55 million rubles to implement the project. In 2022, it reported that the work had been completed, but an audit revealed that the claimed characteristics of the “invisibility fabric” had not been achieved, and the information provided turned out to be false.

The prosecutor’s office pointed to signs of fraud on an especially large scale. As a result, the court upheld the agency’s position and ordered the company to return the 55 million ruble subsidy, pay a fine of approximately 31.5 million rubles, and over 900,000 rubles in court fees.

The fraudsters set a historic record for the number of thefts from Russian bank accounts.

As a reminder, in Sumy, fraudsters stole nearly ₴5 million from a medical facility by carrying out a cyberattack.

The scammers are also sending out fake emails from a legitimate Microsoft address.
