Problems with access to the App Store have begun in Russia

Access to Apple’s official website and the App Store in Russia began to deteriorate sharply at the end of last week.

According to data from the international research project OONI, the number of abnormal connections to Apple’s resources began to rise on Thursday, July 16. Over the next few days, the availability of the company’s official website in Russia dropped to approximately 30–40%. In the case of the App Store, this figure stands at about 60%. At the same time, no similar issues with access to Apple services have been reported in other countries.

The situation is also confirmed by data from the “Sboy.rf” service. Its graphs show that starting on July 16, Russian users began reporting problems accessing the App Store en masse. Judging by the comments, the disruptions are occurring across various regions of Russia, not just in individual cities.

At the same time, the availability of the Google Play Store in Russia is currently estimated at approximately 40–50%. OONI data also indicates a large number of anomalous connections to this platform over the past few months.

Problems accessing Apple’s services may indicate that Russian authorities have partially restricted the App Store’s operations. However, Roskomnadzor has previously denied restricting access to Apple and Google services. As early as July 14, the agency’s press service told Interfax that Russian authorities were not restricting access to these platforms.

This is being reported by Russian propaganda media outlets.
