Russian authorities have announced the arrest of a Radio Free Europe correspondent on charges of treason

Russian authorities have reported the arrest of a former freelance correspondent for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty on suspicion of treason.

Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported this, citing a statement from the FSB.

According to the Russian security service, a Russian citizen born in 1960 was detained in the Zabaykalsky Krai, who allegedly collaborated with the Ukrainian side.

The FSB claims that the man transmitted information via messaging apps and may have been involved in cyberattacks on targets in Russia.

He was taken into custody, and criminal proceedings were initiated under the article on treason.

The detainee’s name has not been officially disclosed, but according to Russian media reports, he is journalist Alexander Andreyev, who previously worked with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and other independent media outlets.

It is also reported that during searches, equipment and communication devices were seized from him, which, according to the FSB, may indicate “illegal activity.”

The Central Bank of Russia proposes allowing cryptocurrency transactions only for the wealthy, while banning ordinary Russians from such transactions and punishing them for violations.

It is also known that Russia pays China in cryptocurrency for goods necessary for the war.
