The ninth Yasen-M-class nuclear submarine was laid down in Russia
On June 17, the new multipurpose nuclear submarine “Murmansk” was officially laid down at the Russian shipbuilding enterprise “Sevmash.”
This vessel is the ninth missile-carrying submarine of the modernized Project 885M (codenamed “Yasen-M”) that the aggressor country is building for its navy.
Currently, four Project 885M submarines are in service with the Russian Navy.
The fifth submarine in this series, the “Perm,” is currently undergoing trials, which are expected to be completed by the end of this year.
It is expected to be the first submarine of its class to carry “Zircon” missiles.

The submarine “Ulyanovsk,” laid down in July 2017, is also being prepared for launch, while two other submarines (“Voronezh” and “Vladivostok”) are in the early stages of construction.
The multi-purpose nuclear submarines of the modernized Yasen-M class are 130 meters long and 13 meters wide, with a full submerged displacement of 13,800 metric tons.
The submarine’s power plant is based on a single OK-650V water-cooled nuclear reactor with a capacity of 190 MW.
This equipment allows the submarine to reach a maximum submerged speed of 31 knots, while its surface speed is 16 knots.
The maximum diving depth for submarines of this class is specified at 600 meters, the operational depth is 520 meters, and the endurance is limited to 100 days for a crew of 64.
The main feature of the new series of submarines’ strike capability is the presence of 10 SM-346 vertical launch systems. Each launcher can accommodate up to four “Onyx” cruise missiles or up to five “Kalibr” missiles.
The submarine’s torpedo armament consists of 10 533-millimeter torpedo tubes.
They are located in the midsection of the hull behind the control station, as the entire bow of the submarine is occupied by the massive antenna of the “Irtysh-Amphibia” hydroacoustic system.
