A top Disney executive has been convicted in Russia
A court in Khimki, Moscow Oblast, sentenced a top executive at The Walt Disney Company to two and a half years in prison and a fine of 30,000 rubles after he was convicted of drug trafficking.
The defendant in the case is Indian citizen Datarao Jugal Sudhir, who serves as a corporate programs manager at the well-known media empire.
The ruling was handed down by Judge Anna Sotnikova, who previously sentenced American basketball player Brittney Griner.
The foreign executive flew to Russia from Qatar in January 2026. During a check at Sheremetyevo International Airport, Russian customs officials found marmalade containing tetrahydrocannabinol in his possession.
In court, Daterao Jugal Sudhir claimed that this substance had been officially prescribed to him by a doctor in the U.S. to treat severe complications related to a previous brain surgery.
According to the official case file, the materials were submitted to the court on February 27, and the guilty verdict was handed down on May 26.
The Indian citizen was charged with illegal possession and transportation of drugs, as well as drug smuggling. The prosecution sought a 6.5-year prison sentence for the defendant.
