A major accident occurred at an ammunition disposal site near the city of Botoșani in Romania, leaving two people injured.
This was reported by the Digi24 television channel.
An unexpected detonation of explosive devices at the site also triggered a major fire.
Emergency services and medical personnel quickly arrived at the scene, provided first aid, and evacuated the injured.
The incident occurred on Monday, May 18, at an ammunition disposal site near the city of Botoșani, located not far from Suceava.
During routine work to dispose of obsolete or unusable shells, the situation spiraled out of control due to a sudden explosion.
Two people were injured after the unexpected detonation, which frightened residents of nearby settlements. A powerful shockwave and debris caused significant damage to the site where the technical operations were being carried out.
Immediately after the initial flash, the fire quickly spread to dry grass and wooden structures located near the detonation line.
The explosion also triggered a fire that spread over dozens of square meters and threatened to cause further uncontrolled explosions.
Containing the fire was complicated by the nature of the military facility, where other hazardous elements might still be present.
