In Romania, a steamship carrying more than 230 people ran aground on the Danube
On the Danube in Romania, a Swiss-flagged passenger steamship carrying 186 passengers and 52 crew members ran aground due to critically low water levels.
The ship had departed from the port of Drobeta-Turnu Severin and was heading to the Bulgarian city of Vidin. Near the Romanian city of Salca, the steamship ran aground.
Rescue services attempted several times to free the ship throughout Monday evening and Tuesday morning, but all attempts were unsuccessful.
Currently, the chances of quickly refloating the steamship are considered slim.

In the southern section of the Danube, the water level has dropped so much that the wreckage of a ship from World War II has become visible. Due to the shallowing waters, navigation has already had to be restricted, and experts fear the situation will worsen further.
As a reminder, the Cabinet of Ministers has allocated nearly 50 million hryvnias to protect Izmail from flooding.
