In the Romanian county of Sibiu, law enforcement authorities are investigating the death of a 34-year-old man, which appears to be the result of a brutal bear attack.
The body of the deceased local resident, who had sustained numerous severe physical injuries, was discovered on Saturday, June 6, on the outskirts of the village of Prod.
Forensic experts and investigative teams promptly arrived at the scene to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy.
Currently, regional police, in collaboration with forestry specialists, are conducting a detailed examination of the area and collecting physical evidence.
“Initial investigations conducted at the scene by Dumbraveni police indicate that the 34-year-old man, a local resident, was attacked by a bear,” the county police reported.
The investigation into the circumstances of the death is ongoing, and the body has been sent for forensic examination to definitively confirm the cause of death.
This tragic incident adds to the statistics of dangerous encounters, as there have been at least two fatal incidents in Europe this spring resulting from encounters between bears and humans.
In particular, in April, an elderly woman died in Poland after encountering a bear in the forest. Shortly thereafter, a similar incident was reported in Bulgaria, where a large predator killed a man in the Vitosha Mountains near the Bulgarian capital of Sofia.
