In Romania, calls are being made for the defense minister to resign following a drone incident in Galați
In the Senate, one of the leading parties has called for the resignation of Defense Minister Radu Mirucea, who is currently serving as acting head of the ministry. The reason was an attack by a “Shahed”-type drone that struck a high-rise building in the border town of Galați.
This was reported by Digi24.
The Social Democratic Party faction in the Romanian Senate called for the “immediate and definitive” resignation of the defense minister after a Russian drone struck a high-rise building in Galați.
In a public statement, Social Democratic senators condemned the incident in Galați and stated that it is “a demonstration of what happens when irresponsibility takes precedence over the safety of citizens.”
They emphasize that this is far from the first Russian drone in Romanian airspace and believe that Poland and Estonia have adapted much better to such risks than Romania.
“We demand the immediate resignation of Radu Miruță from the position from which he was already dismissed, because national defense and public safety are not a game for amateurs,” they stated.
As a reminder, the Social Democrats were one of the coalition partners in the last Romanian government; however, after leaving the governing coalition last month, they initiated a vote of no confidence in Ilie Bolojan’s government, which resulted in his resignation. Currently, all ministers are serving in an acting capacity, and consultations on forming a new cabinet are ongoing.

During the Russian strike on the Odesa region on April 25, Russian drones were moving along the border with Romania. British aircraft patrolling Romanian airspace tracked their routes. Later, drone debris was found in border areas of Romania.
The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Russian ambassador over the incident involving a drone crash near the city of Galați.
