Romania has recorded the lowest water level in the Danube in 30 years
In Romania, the water level in the Danube has dropped to its lowest level since 1996. As a result, authorities have imposed restrictions on the use of water for irrigating farmland.
According to the National Agency for Water Resources Management, on July 19, the water flow at the Danube’s entry point into Romania was 1,700 cubic meters per second, compared to the average July rate of 4,700 cubic meters per second.
Authorities have also stepped up monitoring of reservoirs to ensure the minimum water level required to cool two reactors operated by the state-owned nuclear company Nuclearelectrica.
Experts predict that water levels will begin to rise gradually due to heavy rains in several regions of the country.
