In Sahiwal, shepherd dies after dispute over mare — Dawn
In Sahiwal, Pakistan, 45-year-old shepherd Mukhtar died from a fatal electric shock after a dispute over handing over his beloved mare to relatives. As Dawn reports, according to the preliminary version, the man died by suicide.
Mukhtar grazed livestock in nearby fields and raised the mare himself. According to the publication, his paternal relatives insisted that the animal be handed over to them. Despite Mukhtar's objections, his parents handed the mare over to the relatives under pressure.
After this, the man suffered a fatal electric shock and died at the scene.
Dispute over the autopsy
Yousafwala police arrived at the scene and tried to take the body to a hospital for an autopsy. The family and other relatives opposed this and asked for the body to be handed over to them after procedures under Article 174 of Pakistan's Criminal Code were completed.

Later, according to Dawn, family members stopped the police vehicle with a tractor and trailer near Mall Mandi Chowk and blocked the road in protest against the autopsy. Traffic resumed after assurances that a petition for exemption from an autopsy would be filed with the court.
A judicial magistrate rejected the family's request. Police then conducted an autopsy at the district hospital and handed the body over to the family.
Other cases involving the deaths of women
Police also reported the death of seventh-grade student Aqsa Noor in village 20/14-L. According to police, the girl's uncle, Nazar Muhammad, and two accomplices allegedly shot her at night while she was asleep because of suspicions about her behavior. Law enforcement officers are checking whether the motive could have been a dispute over the distribution of inherited land that belonged to the girl's father. The suspects have not been detained.
In another village, 39/14-L, police are investigating the death of Shaheena. According to law enforcement's version, she was allegedly tortured to death by her husband, Siddiq Muhammad, her husband's brother Ali Akbar, and her mother-in-law Begum Ali Muhammad. According to police, the conflict arose after the woman was refused permission to visit her seriously ill mother. Shaheena's husband and his brother were detained.
