21 improvised explosive devices found near power grid in Saxony
In the eastern German state of Saxony, law enforcement officers found a total of 21 explosive devices as part of an investigation into attacks on the power grid. Nine additional improvised devices were found over the weekend near high-voltage lines south of the Graustein substation in the Görlitz district.
Investigation into power grid incidents
The police and prosecutors announced the new findings in a joint statement. According to Asharq Al-Awsat, a series of sabotage incidents targeting energy infrastructure last week has kept German security authorities on heightened alert.
On Friday, German police reported that they were searching for a man who had sent letters claiming responsibility for a series of attacks on the power grid. Objects resembling explosives were found at his residence. The man remains at large.

Separate incidents in Berlin and Wesel
On the same day, a fire broke out at a transformer substation in Berlin. Initial inspection results indicate that it was caused by a technical malfunction, Spiegel reported, citing police commissioner Barbara Slowik Meisel.
Separately, Bild reported that police in the western city of Wesel launched a large-scale inspection after a fence around another transformer substation was found cut open.
Germany has in recent days become the focus of European concerns over the vulnerability of critical infrastructure. This followed a series of power grid incidents and a drone attack on Leipzig/Halle Airport in August, for which the German government officially blamed Russia.
