San Miguel de Allende launches art passport for local studios — Mexico News Daily

In San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, jeweler Mariana Díaz presented the Hidden Studios Art Passport project on September 12 — a printed guide to local art studios and creative spaces. The first edition includes 14 local artists. Visitors can collect stamps at every studio they visit, Mexico News Daily reports.

According to Díaz, the idea emerged after she felt invisible as an artist and realized that other creators faced the same problem. Artists pay a participation fee and provide photographs of their works for the guide, while the organizer gives them stamps she designed. The guide can be found at selected hotels, cafes and restaurants in the city. Seven artists have already joined the project’s second edition.

Charity events for schoolchildren

On October 10, Rancho Sol Dorado, about 9.7 kilometers north of San Miguel de Allende, will host the Billy Boots Cup cattle sorting competition. Teams of riders must separate numbered cows from a herd and drive them into pens in a specified sequence within a limited time. Admission to the event will be free; food, drinks, a raffle and the participation of 20 local vendors are also planned.

The event will benefit the nonprofit organization Feed the Hungry San Miguel, which distributes meals to local schoolchildren. On October 25, the organization will also hold the seventh Walk, Run, Bike for Food Challenge in the rural Viñedo Dos Búhos area east of the city. Its goal is to support meal programs providing more than 5,000 nutritious school lunches daily for local and rural communities.

Ryan Gosling’s visit

The publication also reported that Canadian actor and musician Ryan Gosling was seen on September 18 at the Sala de Despecho bar-restaurant in central San Miguel de Allende. The venue on Umarán Street offers a bar, restaurant and karaoke featuring Spanish-language pop songs and heartbreak ballads.
