Serbia Reports Attempted Sabotage on Gas Pipeline — RTS
Serbian intelligence agencies and military units have neutralized a threat to blow up a critical infrastructure facility in the municipality of Kanjiža.
This was reported by RTS.
Suspicious objects were discovered in three villages near the border with Hungary, posing a direct threat to the lives of citizens and the region’s stable energy supply.
To eliminate the threat, 140 military personnel and police officers were promptly deployed to the scene.
Security forces completely blocked road traffic in the area of the operation, conducting a thorough search of the territory to identify any other possible explosive devices.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić officially confirmed that experts found two large packages containing powerful explosives and detonators.
He emphasized that thanks to the army’s professional actions, they managed to prevent an attack that was directed against “the country’s vital interests.”
The head of state also reported that he had already held an urgent conversation with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán regarding this extraordinary incident.
Had the sabotage been successful, Hungary and the entire northern part of Serbia would have been completely cut off from natural gas supplies.
According to Vučić, the explosives discovered had an extremely high destructive power, capable of causing numerous casualties.
The Serbian leader assured that the state would “deal ruthlessly with anyone who thinks they can threaten it” and its security.
Currently, the Criminal Police Directorate, in cooperation with military counterintelligence, is continuing its investigation to identify the organizers and perpetrators of the failed terrorist attack.
The investigation already has its first serious leads, which may point to those who ordered this provocation against the energy system.
As a reminder, Serbia explained its refusal to participate in the EU–Western Balkans summit.
Serbia will reintroduce mandatory military service starting in 2026.
