In Scotland, a transgender migrant MP has called for reparations for Palestine

Kyu Manivanan, a newly elected member of the Scottish Parliament, has expressed support for an initiative to pay reparations to Palestinians for what he called “Scotland’s complicity in the colonization of Palestine.”

This was reported by Nexta.Live.

His statement drew a sharp reaction from British conservatives, who criticized the initiative and its political wording.

Manivanan was elected to the Parliament on the Scottish Green Party ticket. At the same time, it is reported that he is in the UK on a student visa and currently has no guarantee of the right to remain in the country for the duration of his term as a member of Parliament.

The issue of his status and political statements has already become the subject of public debate in British political circles.

Earlier, despite tense relations between Kyiv and Tbilisi, Georgia unexpectedly joined an international agreement to establish a mechanism for distributing reparations. The document provides for the allocation of funds obtained from Russian assets to compensate Ukrainian citizens and businesses that have suffered as a result of Russian aggression.

Hungary, although it publicly opposes punishing Russia for its aggression, has failed to block the creation of a commission to discuss reparations at the EU level.
