Dozens of flights have been canceled in Switzerland due to bad weather

Due to severe thunderstorms that hit Switzerland, 70 flights were canceled at Zurich Airport from Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning. More than 30 other flights were forced to divert to other airports due to adverse weather conditions.

According to a spokesperson for Zurich Airport, seventy flights had been canceled by 7:00 a.m. local time on Wednesday. At the same time, flight operations resumed as usual.

On Tuesday evening, more than 30 planes bound for Zurich were diverted to other airports, including Stuttgart, Geneva, and Basel. As a result, there was a shortage of aircraft and crews on Wednesday, an airport spokeswoman said.

It is noted that prolonged thunderstorms directly over the airport caused significant disruptions to airport operations the previous evening. As a result, 44 flights were initially canceled, including 24 arrivals and 20 departures.

A special exemption was granted for the period after the airport’s official closing time at 11:30 p.m., allowing 14 planes to arrive and 15 to depart.

Many passengers were unable to begin their journeys and were forced to remain at the airport.

This was reported by Swissinfo.
