In Singapore, on September 15 at around 11:40, passengers were asked to leave a train at Bukit Gombak station after smoke was spotted coming from beneath a carriage. The incident occurred on the North-South Line.

Probable cause of the smoke

According to preliminary inspection results, the smoke may have been caused by a brake malfunction. Channel NewsAsia reports, citing SMRT Trains President Lam Sheau Kai.

According to him, company employees promptly helped all passengers safely leave the train as a safety precaution.

Train sent to depot

After the passengers had left, the train was sent to a depot for further inspection. Train services, according to SMRT Trains, continued as usual.

The company also said it had not received reports of passengers requiring medical assistance after the incident.
