Air quality in Singapore remains at a moderate level
In Singapore, air quality remained at a moderate level on Sunday, September 6. As of 7:00 p.m., the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) in different parts of the country ranged from 72 to 87, Channel NewsAsia reports, citing Singapore’s National Environment Agency.
Smoke from fires in the region
According to the agency, Singapore experienced clear and windy weather on Sunday. At the same time, due to dry conditions, moderate to dense smoke plumes from fires in southern and central Sumatra, as well as West Kalimantan, continued to drift toward Singapore.
Dry conditions are expected in Singapore and the surrounding region in the coming days, although rainfall is possible over Kalimantan. Due to prevailing southeasterly or southerly winds, there remains a risk of haze in Singapore if the fires continue.

Forecast and PSI readings
The National Environment Agency forecasts that over the next 24 hours, the PSI will range from high moderate to low unhealthy levels.
On Friday at 7:00 a.m., the reading in Singapore’s central region entered the unhealthy range of 101 to 200. This was the first time the PSI exceeded 100 since October 8, 2023. After that, the agency began publishing daily haze situation updates, including a PSI forecast for the next day. The index later also entered the unhealthy range in the eastern and western parts of the country.
The 24-hour PSI is an indicator of daily air quality in Singapore and is calculated based on six pollutants: PM2.5, PM10, ozone, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, and carbon monoxide. The one-hour PM2.5 reading measures the hourly average concentration of fine particulate matter, the main pollutant during haze episodes.
