More than 150 Pentagon programs could be delayed in the US due to temporary funding — Breaking Defense
In the United States, more than 150 new military programs could be delayed because the federal government is operating under a continuing resolution on funding. This mechanism does not allow the Pentagon to begin funding new programs until Congress approves the budget for fiscal year 2027, Breaking Defense reports.
The continuing resolution is in effect until December 11. The publication identified more than 150 items marked as new programs in budget documents on procurement and research, development, testing and evaluation. They include projects in drones, missile defense and hypersonic weapons.
Chief of Space Operations Gen. Douglas Schiess said the delay would slow work while threats are not diminishing. Democratic Senator from Connecticut Chris Coons, the leading Democrat on the Senate defense appropriations subcommittee, said lawmakers would try to avoid temporary funding for the entire fiscal year.
Missile defense and drones
Programs that could be postponed include the Golden Dome missile defense system project, one of President Donald Trump's priorities. The administration planned to spend $17.5 billion on it in fiscal year 2027, but less than $400 million of this amount is included in the base budget.

The launch of the Defense Autonomous Warfare Group initiative could also be postponed. It is intended to effectively absorb the Replicator program, launched under the administration of Joe Biden, for the procurement of thousands of low-cost drones. The Pentagon requested $54.6 billion for research and development under this initiative, of which $1 billion was to come from the base budget.
Service branch programs
The US Army has 29 new programs in budget documents. Among the largest requests are $921.9 million for THAAD, $132.1 million for the AN/TPY-2 sensor and $131.7 million for the integration of the HADES intelligence aircraft platform.
The US Navy has 17 new programs, including funding for a Trump-class battleship, two submarine maintenance floating bases and the procurement of the first 12 Conventional Prompt Strike hypersonic missiles. The US Air Force has about 100 new programs. The delay could affect development of ARRW and HACM hypersonic weapons, the Family of Affordable Mass Missiles program, the Looking Glass – Next command aircraft system and LASS active protection for large aircraft. The US Space Force identified nine new programs, the largest of which is the Autonomous Tactical Fabric software system, with a budget of $1.5 billion for fiscal year 2027.
