Suspect detained in fatal road accident in Tel Aviv — Jerusalem Post

In Tel Aviv, Israel, police detained a 24-year-old Palestinian from Nablus after a car struck a cyclist. The victim sustained critical injuries and later died in hospital. According to The Jerusalem Post, police suspect that the man was driving a stolen car.

Circumstances of the accident

According to police, the suspect allegedly stole a car on Unitzman Street and struck a cyclist while driving. The man was detained.

According to law enforcement, a bag containing tools used to steal cars was found in the vehicle. They included an ignition control module, a hammer, and glass-breaking devices.

The investigation is ongoing

Police also reported that the detainee entered Israel from the West Bank without the documents required for this. Law enforcement officers are continuing the investigation and gathering additional information.

According to the publication, this is the second incident in Tel Aviv in September involving suspicions of car theft by a West Bank resident. On September 9, police detained 46-year-old Jenin resident Tarek Jarrar on suspicion of stealing the car of Tel Aviv District Court judge Alaa Masarwa. According to the police version, during the pursuit he failed to stop at the request of law enforcement officers, collided with another car, and continued driving until police stopped the vehicle.
