In Toronto, there was a shooting near the U.S. Consulate for the second time this year
Toronto police are investigating a shooting near the U.S. Consulate in the city—this is the second such incident since the beginning of the year. No one was injured in the attack, according to BBC News.
At around 4:45 a.m. local time on Monday, a police officer on duty near the consulate building heard a single gunshot and noticed a white car without license plates leaving the scene. Law enforcement briefly pursued the vehicle at high speed but called off the chase for safety reasons.
One shell casing was found at the scene, and damage was observed on the building’s facade. At least two people were inside the consulate at the time of the shooting. Toronto Deputy Police Chief Frank Barrado noted that the building has enhanced security measures, so people inside likely did not hear the shot.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police and international law enforcement partners have joined the investigation. Police have released an image of the vehicle they believe the suspect was driving: a white Honda Accord without license plates. Law enforcement officials have also asked patrols throughout the city to be on the lookout for anyone who may be involved.
Police have been on duty near the consulate since March, when shots were also fired near the building. No one was injured at that time. In June, police conducted raids in connection with the March attack, during which 43-year-old Constable Mark Pinizzotto was killed. Law enforcement subsequently arrested several suspects, aged 18 and 19, who are suspected of a series of shootings, including the one near the consulate. Investigators link the March incident to a broader network of individuals carrying out contract shootings.
That same weekend, two Jewish-owned bakeries in Toronto were also attacked; at least one of them was shot at. Police stated that they currently have no information linking these incidents to the shooting near the consulate, but have not ruled out such a connection.
